Dr. Terry Ellis holds a B.A. in Psychology, a M. Div. and a doctorate in Greek. As an ordained Baptist minister he served as pastor to six churches over a 34 year career in ministry. He began drinking late in life, became an alcoholic, and now has 7+ years in recovery. About the Workshop

This presentation will give participants an overview on the way a typical intervention is planned and carried out. Additionally, I will address the major fears and objections families have in considering an intervention and how these may be addressed. Finally, we will look at post-intervention work.

Learning Objectives:

  1. List the six categories of objections and highlight the one that is most important for the interventionist to address.
  2. Identify the most common myth on intervention/recovery and discuss why it is so dangerous.
  3. Discuss the difference between influence and leverage in intervention.
  4. Identify and discuss 2 ethical concerns in intervention.
