Description

American families are constantly morphing, and most will have contact with the Family Court system at some time. Mental health professionals can offer their expertise to help families cope with changes with minimal trauma. This rewarding interdisciplinary work allows us to serve families in transition have a more humane experience in the legal system.

This program has been approved for 2.75 CE clock hours (General) by the Louisiana Counseling Association as authorized by the Louisiana Professional Counselor Licensing Board of Examiners.

  • 1:00pm – 1:30pm –  American families in Family Court: The spectrum of services they need from us; mild conflict cases needing coaching/education
  • 1:30pm – 2:15pm – Moderate conflict roles: court-ordered therapist, mediator and visitation supervisor
  • 2:15pm – 2:30pm – Break
  • 2:30pm – 4:00pm – Severe conflict roles: special issues evaluator; custody evaluator; parenting coordinator

Note: Time designated for breaks cannot be counted toward CE credit

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 7 distinct roles that mental health professionals can play in Family Court-related work
  • Explain at least 2 specific duties and boundaries of each of these roles
  • Describe the relevant training for each role

Educational Goal:

Participants are expected to gain confidence and competence in serving meaningful roles that serve clients and patients in court-related settings. Participants will gain insight into those roles and be prepared to occupy them when called upon to serve.
