Susan Dreyfus will present and engage the audience on why she is the most hopeful she has been in her 30-plus year career that the decade of the 2020s can be a field and social sector moment in America. As she reflects on pre-pandemic and post-pandemic national trends and issues, she will present on the eight accelerants she has seen across the country in highly differentiated and influential social sector behavioral health and social services organizations. Dreyfus will provide hope and optimism for the future while challenging organizations and NJAMHAA to think, plan and act at a more generative and adaptive level of change, impact and influence. Dreyfus will share a future strategy as the field and NJAMHAA embark on the next chapter to ensure excellence, influence, growth and sustainability.

Workshop Description

There is no population that has been more impacted by COVID than older adults. Past and current traumas have placed an enormous strain on individuals, caregivers and the healthcare system. This has led to a substantial decline in mental and physical wellbeing for not only older adults, but also those who provide care. This workshop will feature a community-based model that is centered on innovative technology. Case studies, lessons learned, promising practices, and sustainability will also be highlighted in an effort to facilitate discussion regarding creative technological solutions for the psychosocial needs of older adults in a post-COVID world.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
1. Classify how COVID has resulted in trauma symptoms in the older adult population.
2. Define the role that social isolation/loneliness play on older adults' quality of life and trauma care.

Peer Workforce Mentoring Fellowship Program

Workshop Description

Peers within the workforce have a vital role in the provision of services that reflect mutual aid in substance use recovery and managing mental health challenges. If peers are to be successful in their roles within organizations, administrative support systems may need to be built to facilitate their success within the workforce. One of the major hurdles for employees who identify as peers is the lack of access to adequate social capital. In the face of organizational obstacles, social capital has been found to improve the level of performance for employees while simultaneously achieving the goals of the organizations.
In an effort to ensure the success of the peer workforce through the extension of social capital, CSPNJ has implemented a mentoring fellowship program that empowers employees to choose mentors that meet their current and future work-related needs. The CSPNJ Mentoring Fellowship Program connects staff with mentors for professional career and skills development, networking and gaining knowledge and insight on best practices on navigating organizational behaviors.
The successful implementation of CSPNJ’s mentoring fellowship program is grounded not only in the values of the organization that is centered around the human rights perspectives, but also in academic literature. Research has shown the positive benefits of mentoring in the workforce, such as retention, empowerment, increased job satisfaction, strong communication skills, leadership skill development and an increased chance of being promoted.

Workshop Description

This workshop will provide an overview of the history of neuromodulation in psychiatry, a synopsis of the present uses of neuromodulation and coverage of the new and predicted applications. Discussion will include Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and other non-pharmacological somatic therapies. Dr. Shah will describe the strategy and techniques of ECT in great detail.

Assistant Commissioner Valerie Mielke will share the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services’ vision for the future. She will speak of the direction mental health and substance use treatment will take in New Jersey, including what may be expected of the 1115 waiver and how the state will be implementing a 9-8-8 Crisis Response System that is required by federal law by July 2022. The presentation will touch on value based purchasing, recovery services, integrated care and other areas the Division may be moving toward.

1. Describe components in place and needed for New Jersey’s 9-8-8 Crisis Response System.

Keys for Success in Behavioral Health Managed Care Contracting

Workshop Description:

This session will provide an overview of the managed care principles and the state of the new managed care environment, and will focus on understanding your agency's "risk readiness" post-COVID. The speaker will present a holistic approach, address performance measures, and discuss implications. Experience with providers and payers will be shared, providing guidance and exploring the basic tools required for succeeding in the managed care environment.

Behavioral health providers offer knowledge and experience, demonstrating that there is opportunity to improve care to the populations they serve through collaboration with payers in addressing the goals of managed care. Focusing on outcomes through performance measurement (i.e., you can't improve what you can’t measure) is an important key to success. Understanding your population is a starting point through data collection. Baseline data must be compared to benchmarks, and data must be actionable and frequently updated. “Risk readiness” involves evaluation of organizational culture, leadership and structure, as well as provider and client engagement, care coordination infrastructure, information technology infrastructure, reporting and analytic capabilities. Collaborations with payers and integrating payer data enhance success in improving outcomes. Real life payer and provider coordination experiences illustrate successful multi-faceted approaches.

1. Define the principles and goals of managed care in the current managed care environment.
2. Identify performance measures and benchmarks appropriate to their disciplines.
3. Develop a value proposition reflecting their disciplines’/agencies’ knowledge, skills and experience to market their expertise and enter into value-based contracting with managed care organizations.

Primary Care and Behavioral Health Integration

Healthcare integration is more than providing access to mental healthcare and substance use treatment services. Building and sustaining integrated care means all facets of an organization must reflect the values of whole health and care collaboration, and embrace change across the workforce, including administrative and clinical operations. It means developing an infrastructure that values behavioral health and sees it as key to systemic practice transformation, which involves mapping out care models, analyzing financial costs, and identifying revenue sources. Integrating behavioral health with primary care services is a critical component of integration as it ensures that patients receive a continuum of preventative and restorative mental health and addiction treatment services according to their needs over time and across different levels of the health system. This workshop will provide an overview of the RWJBH Medical Group's integrated care continuum, which ranges from collaboration, to co-location, to full integration.

1. Identify integrated care models and their constructs within a larger hybrid model.
2. Analyze how models fit unique practice needs and available resources while incorporating proven components of integrated health.

The Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) are the conditions in the environments where people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks. There is a growing awareness of the impact of SDoH on the health and wellbeing of people with mental health and/or substance use challenges along with co-occurring medical conditions. This session will examine the importance of focusing on SDoH as a lens for designing and delivering prevention, treatment, and wellness and recovery supports.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
1. Define SDoH in the context of recovery: prevention, treatment, and support.
2. Describe how the Eight Wellness Dimensions and SDoH intersect.

Third, learn strategies for preventing fear from derailing your change initiative. You will also learn how to present the why, what, how, and when of change, including when and how to use Coaching Skills to engage colleagues to ensure success. Continuing Education Credits

New Jersey Social Workers: An application has been submitted for consideration of CE credits for these courses. If the courses are approved, in order for attendees to be eligible for the credit, they must be present and signed into each webinar for the entirety of each session. Attendance will be monitored and tracked by Trusted Provider Network, the provider of the virtual platform for this conference. Attendees will receive an evaluation via e-mail once each session has ended. They must complete that evaluation and send it back for each session they attend in order to receive credit. Certificates will be e-mailed to attendees to the e-mail addresses provided in their registration within 30 days after the conference. NJAMHAA asks that attendees also submit Overall Program Evaluation that they will also receive via e-mail after the conference is over.

Cancellation, Substitution and Refund Policy

Substitutes for exhibitors and attendees are allowed. Sponsor, exhibitor and advertiser registrants must cancel registrations IN WRITING ONLY to Christine Leonardo by e-mail at cleonardo@njamhaa.org, by 4:00 p.m., 30 calendar days prior to the conference in order to receive a 100 percent refund of the registration fee. If you cancel your registration between 15 and 29 days prior to the conference start date, you will receive a refund of only 50 percent of the registration fee. No refunds will be made within 15 or fewer days of the start date. Phone calls and voicemails will not be accepted as a means of cancellation.

Grievance Policy

Should any registrant be dissatisfied with the quality of their continuing education program during this event, a request in writing, explaining why you were dissatisfied, must be submitted to NJAMHAA within five (5) business days of the conclusion of the conferences/training in order to receive a full refund of registration fees. NJAMHAA takes all complaints/grievances seriously and will be investigated thoroughly. NJAMHAA also wants to ensure that the complaint is not frivolous in nature or used as a way for attendee(s) to receive a refund for the training.

Payment Information and Insufficient Funds

Online credit card payments may be made through the Trusted Provider Network website at TPN.health. If a credit card is declined for any reason, a $15 fee will be applied to your invoice and be required as payment. Individuals holding outstanding balances will be ineligible to attend future NJAMHAA conferences or trainings until the outstanding balances are paid in full. Each individual with an outstanding balance that has been carried for more than 30 days will incur a $25 late fee, which will be applied to the invoice and required as payment.
